German musician Johannes Kreidler made a soundtrack of the global economic crisis composed by running financial graphs through SongSmith. It gets political in a few spots, but is bleakly funny.

Wasn't this a minor sub-plot in a Douglas Adams novel? A program that would write corporate theme tunes based on their financial results?

  Yes, the software was named "Anthem". If you wander to Google Book Search [google.com], you can find the initial description of it on page 29: "if you wanted your company accounts represented as a piece of music, it could do that as well...it produced lots of cheery company anthems".

But that was fucking great! I loved how it all sounded like SimCity theme music. (probably because of the MIDI instrumentation) Will Songsmith really take images and make songs out of them?
